DUCK HUNTING October
thru December
To
hunt waterfowl in
Indiana, you must purchase your Indiana license and stamp
and obtain your HIP number (don't forget your Federal Duck
Stamp). Click
DNR Links to see
Indiana's duck hunting seasons and to buy licenses online.
NORTH
ZONE
These are almost
exclusively water hunts. When we setup for ducks, we'll setup for geese as well, if practical, so Canada geese are always
a possibility on any of these hunts.
In the
North Zone, you'll hunt the St. Joseph River near South Bend.
Besides the river itself, we also have access to several small
lakes, ponds, and marshes. We'll take you where the birds
seem to be working the best at that time.
While
mallards and wood ducks are the big draw, we occasionally get into
some other puddle ducks and even divers. In the fall of 2007
we took black ducks, widgeon, redheads, ruddies, and even
goldeneye along with our mallards and woodies.
SOUTH
ZONE
In the
South Zone, you'll be in the Peru area to hunt the Wabash and Eel
River valleys. Mallards and wood ducks are most likely.

SPECIAL
WOOD DUCK HUNTS
BEST
HUNTING: October into early or mid-November
Besides
the usual duck hunts, we also offer you a chance to do a hunt
where Wood Ducks are the main quarry. We've located spots in
the South Zone where the woodies flock in by the hundreds.
We've hunted these locations for two years and have not been
disappointed.
Now we
feel comfortable offering these wood duck hunts as part of our
packages to the public. Your guide will put you in the
middle of literally hundreds of wood ducks and let you pick your
birds from the swarm.
Many times
you'll find ONLY wood ducks at this location, so your hunt
will likely end as soon as you have your limit.
However, if mallards are about, you and your guide may
decide between yourselves if you want to stick it out.

CANADA
GOOSE HUNTING
| 2-Bird Limits: |
October
thru January |
| 5-Bird Limits: |
September
and February |
We'll hunt
fields and water for the extensive local flock of giant Canada geese
and the influx of migrants in November thru January. Average bird size will be in the 12-lb
range, perhaps larger in the Special February season.
We'll do mostly
field hunts in September and water in February. Bring bug spray in Sep and be ready for frosty
temps in Feb. You'll also want to make sure you bring
WARM waders along in Feb. In Oct - Dec, we may be in a
field or on the river. It just depends on what our scouting
tells us should be best. BEFORE
YOUR FEBRUARY HUNT: Besides the usual licensing
to hunt waterfowl in Indiana, an added step is required in
February. After getting your HIP number, you must call
812-334-3795 to obtain
your FREE permit required to hunt this special
season. AFTER
YOUR FEBRUARY HUNT: All birds taken during this
season MUST be turned in at a DNR check point within 48
hours. You must present the head, a feathered wing,
and the reproductive organs.
WE
WILL CHECK YOUR BIRDS FOR YOU. If you
intend to take only the breast meat, come prepared to clean
and pack your meat before heading home. We'll help you
clean your birds then have you tag each carcass. We'll
then drive your birds to the DNR check point for you. If
you want to clean and keep a complete bird for roasting, or
if you just want to wait until you get home to clean your
birds, you'll have to take the carcasses to a DNR check
point yourself. Visit
the Indiana DNR site
to find the check point most convenient for you.
