Below are pictures of our May 2007 trip to
Port Clinton, Ohio to fish for walleye on Lake Erie. It was our
first trip with Fish 'N' Tales and Captain Tom Gonya, and he's earned all our Lake Erie
business in the future. Not only did he put us in fish (we only
fished for three hours due to seasickness caused by 3 - 5 foot rollers), but he was also a pleasure
to fish with.
He does NOT charge a 'boat rate', so
smaller parties will find him very affordable. I took my son and
one of his friends and the total charge was $250 (which included a small
discount received by booking with him at an outdoors trade show). We saved $200
without sacrificing trip quality.
We definitely recommend giving Capt.
Gonya a call before booking your Lake Erie trip and tell him Big Lake
Outdoors sent you.

| Going
out. A bit of an east wind had us on 3 - 5 foot
rollers. I get seasick in a bath tub. My son lasted
3 hours. |
My
son's first-ever walleye - caught about 10 mins after
starting. 28 inches, 6 1/2 pounds. |
We
weren't the only ones fishing. There must have been 1,000
boats on the lake here. |
We
brought in 15 walleye in 3 hours. We also lost one 20+
inch fish that made an athletic flip out of the boat as it was
being measured. |
My
son earned an 'Outstanding Catch' certificate from the Ohio DNR
for his trophy walleye (see picture of the mount below). |
